Malicious software developed in China was used in a series of “successful” cyber-attacks against the Reserve Bank of Australia. The attacks came through various e-mails addressed to members of staff, including senior management. The e-mails contained a URL link to a zip file containing a trojan that was designed to collect information on sensitive G20 negotiations. In response to the attacks, the RBA has contracted a private security firm to do some “authorized hacking” to reveal any further vulnerabilities in the bank’s computer system.
